Earlier last month, in Crete, Greece, a concerned neighbor reached out to the authorities about a dog that needed help. The reporter said the owner allegedly abuses his dog. So quickly, the police officers rushed to the scene.
At the rescue location, the officers found the dog. He showed signs of aggression, barking, and snarling at the law enforcers continuously. Unable to identify how to handle the animal, they decided to call Takis Shelter and asked for help.
The moment Takis received the call, he hopped into his car and drove to the site. There, he met Phoenix, a terrified dog that didn’t trust humans. He knew he had to help him, so he took him to the shelter.
Once they arrived, Takis started to try and gain Phoenix’s trust. He wanted to show him that not all humans are bad. But because of his dark past, Phoenix thought people would only hurt him, so he kept defending himself.
Abused, Phoenix never knew what love means. All he experienced was violence and fear. So he had no clue that all Takis wanted was to help.
Takis admits it wasn’t easy gaining Phoenix’s trust. But he knew it was all worth it. So he kept his cool and patiently worked with the terrified pup.
After several hours of trying, Takis finally managed to touch Phoenix. While he did it with safety precaution at first, the dog realized he meant no harm. And soon, he welcomed his rescuer’s affection.
Although still a bit petrified, Phoenix accepted Takis’s touch. And suddenly, he gave in. He calmed down and surrendered to his rescuer.
A few days after his rescue, Phoenix transformed from a terrified pup to an incredibly sweet dog. All he wanted was to learn and feel what love means. He was eager to be around people and made friends with other dogs and cats.
Phoenix adjusted quickly into his new life. He gets along with everyone, both humans and animals. He’s proof that a little love makes a big difference.
